Golden Eagles defeat Greenup County 67-42

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central defeated Greenup County 67-42 in a Class 4A, District 6 game at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Oct. 18.

With the win, Johnson Central improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in Class 4A, District 6.

Greenup County dropped to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in Class 4A, District 6 after absorbing the loss.

Johnson Central started strong and controlled the first half. The Golden Eagles led 54-22 at halftime.

Continuing to thrive on the ground, Johnson Central rushed 30 times for 586 yards and nine touchdowns.

Zack McCoart led Johnson Central, rushing 11 times for 325 yards and five touchdowns.

Behind McCoart, Christian Barnes rushed five times for 95 yards and two touchdowns in Johnson Central’s win.

Chipping in on the ground for Johnson Central, Logan Music and Logan Morrow added one rushing touchdown apiece.

Caleb Barnes paced Johnson Central defensively, posting seven tackles for the Golden Eagles.

Contributing to Johnson Central’s defensive effort, Seth Davis, Dalton Matney and Braxton Perry each recorded six tackles.

Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Ashland for its regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 25. The Golden Eagles will battle the Tomcats for the 2024 Class 4A, District 6 title.
