Johnson Central defeats Lawrence County in 15th Region title game

BUCKLEY CREEK — Johnson Central used multiple runs to defeat Lawrence County 64-41 in the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Tournament title game at Pike County Central on Thursday, March 6.

Following the loss, Lawrence County exited the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season15-13.

Johnson Central moved ahead early, outscoring Lawrence Country 19-7 in the opening quarter.

The Lady Eagles led 34-15 at halftime and never faltered in the second half.

Johnson Central led 51-25 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Eagles shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the field. Johnson Central shot 50 percent (seven-of-14) from three-point range.

The Lady Eagles shot 81 percent (17-of-21) from the free throw line.

Adyson Burchett led Johnson Central to the win, scoring a game-high 21 points for the Lady Eagles.

Joining Burchett in double figures for Johnson Central, Karlea Stanley netted 16 points.

Nine different players delivered scoring for the Lady Eagles. Maddie Prater (seven points), Kaylyn McKenzie (six points), Haylee Marsillett (five points), Allie Slone (three points), Jaylin Blanton (two points), Emma Ferguson (two points) and Kamryn Duncan (two points) also contributed to Johnson Central’s offensive attack.

Sophie Adkins paced Lawrence County, scoring a team-high 15 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Giving Lawrence County two scorers in double figures, Jada Patton netted 11 points.

Finishing outside double figures, Abby Maynard (three points), Maddison Artrip (three points), Gracie Woods (three points), Caroline See (two points), Emalynn Kitts (two points) and Gabby Stinnett (two points) supplied the rest of Lawrence County’s scoring.

Lawrence County shot 50 percent (eight-of-16) from the free throw line in the setback.

Johnson Central is slated to meet top-ranked Sacred Heart in the opening round of the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington on Thursday, March 13.
