Bulldogs outlast Panthers in overtime

BUCKLEY CREEK — Lawrence County outlasted Pikeville 68-67 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Pike County Central on Saturday, March 8.

After registering the win, Lawrence County (21-10) advanced to the semifinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Lawrence County shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field. The Bulldogs made six of 21 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line.

Gunnar Woods led Lawrence County to the win, scoring 26 points and claiming seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. Woods paced Lawrence County in scoring and rebounding.

Joining Woods in double figures for Lawrence County, Kaden Johnson scored 15 points and Kaiden Harris netted 13 points. Harris drained a game-winning shot in overtime for the Bulldogs.

Narrowly missing double figures for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry scored nine points. Perry connected on a three-point field goal to force the region tournament game into overtime.

Rounding out Lawrence County’s scoring Luke Fetherolf added five points.

Lawrence County moved on to meet host Pike County Central in the semifinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Monday, March 10.
