Bulldogs knock off Golden Eagles

PAINTSVILLE — Bouncing back after falling to 58th District counterpart Prestonsburg, Lawrence County knocked off host Johnson Central in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 1.
The Bulldogs defeated the Golden Eagles 94-82.
Lawrence County registered its 20th win in the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season. After posting the win, Lawrence County improved to 20-10.
The Bulldogs started strong, outscoring the Golden Eagles 23-13 in the opening quarter.
Lawrence County led 40-31 at halftime and maintained a lead after the intermission period.
The Bulldogs led 65-57 at the end of the third quarter.
Lawrence County made 12 three-point field goals. The Bulldogs connected on 20 of 24 free throw attempts, shooting 83.3 percent from the foul line.
Kaiden Harris led Lawrence County, scoring 23 points for the Bulldogs.
Finishing directly behind Harris in Lawrence County’s scoring column, Gunnar Woods netted 22 points.
All five Lawrence County starters reached double figures. Aiding Lawrence County in its win, Hayden Perry posted 18 points, Luke Fetherolf delivered 13 points and Kaden Johnson contributed 11 points.
Rounding out Lawrence County’s scoring, Caden Muncy added seven points.
Austin Slone scored a team-high 24 points for the Golden Eagles. Finishing directly behind Slone in Johnson Central’s scoring column, Mason McKenzie netted 23 points while Brayden Shepherd added 17 points.
The other scorers for the Golden Eagles were Kyle Rose (eight points), Dawson Montgomery (six points), Andrew Meeks (two points) and Kaleb Callaham (two points).
