EASTERN — Johnson Central defeated Floyd Central 59-46 in the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 9.
The Lady Eagles improved to 13-2 after notching the win.
Johnson Central 33.9 percent (20-of-59) from the field. The Lady Eagles made five of 23 three-point field goal attempts.
Johnson Central, which used a balanced offensive attack to claim the win, shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the free throw line.
Haylee Marsillett, Allie Slone and Adyson Burchett scored 11 points apiece for the Lady Eagles.
Nearly reaching double figures for Johnson Central, Emma McKenzie netted nine points while Maddie Prater posted eight points and Karlea Stanley added seven points.
Chipping in offensively for Johnson Central, Emma Ferguson contributed two points.
Marsillett paced Johnson Central inside, claiming eight rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
Floyd Central shot 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the field in a losing effort. The Lady Jaguars made one of four three-point field goal attempts.
Floyd Central converted on five of nine free throw attempts.
Reagan Laferty scored a game-high 19 points and pulled in eight rebounds for tournament host Floyd Central.
Accompanying Lafferty in double figures for Floyd Central, Aubrey Moore netted 10 points.
Behind the two players in double figures, Chloe Crase (six points), Hannah Lafferty (six points), Maddy Engle (four points) and Lexi O’Bryan (one point) were Floyd Central’s other scorers.
