Golden Eagles roll past Jaguars 86-59

EASTERN — Johnson Central rolled past Floyd Central 86-59 in the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Thursday, Jan. 9.

The Golden Eagles improved to 6-4 after registering the win.

Johnson Central shot 42.9 percent (30-of-70) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the free throw line.

Brayden Shepherd scored a game-high 31 points for the Golden Eagles. Shepherd made five of 12 three-point field goal attempts.

Austin Slone followed Shepherd in scoring for Johnson Central and recorded a double-double. Slone scored 29 points and pulled down a game-high 18 points for the Golden Eagles.

Joining Shepherd and Slone in double figures for Johnson Central, Mason McKenzie netted 10 points.

Eight different players provided scoring for former 15th Region champion Johnson Central. Andrew Meeks (six points), Kaleb Callaham (four points), Dawson Montgomery (three points), Kyler Callaham (two points) and Corbin Burt (one point) supplied the rest of Johnson Central’s scoring.

Successful inside for the Golden Eagles, Kyle Rose grabbed 12 rebounds.

Dylan Boyd paced Floyd Central, scoring a team-high 21 points for the Jaguars.

Following Boyd’s team-high scoring effort for Floyd Central, Wesley Buck netted 13 points.

The other scorers for Floyd Central were James Samons (nine points), Lucas Howard (seven points), Christian Johnson (four points) and Logan Meade (two points).
