Feltner instrumental in Belmont’s win over Valparaiso

NASHVILLE — Kensley Feltner scored nine points as she helped to lead Belmont over Valparaiso 67-53 in a Missouri Valley Conference game at the Curb Event Center on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Feltner, a Lawrence County graduate, connected on four of six field goal attempts. In addition, Feltner made her lone free throw attempt and pulled down one rebound.
Following the win, Belmont improved to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).
Belmont limited Valparaiso (5-11, 1-4 MVC) to 33.3 percent (19-of-57) shooting and outrebounded the opposing team 45-28.
Feltner is the fourth all-time leading scorer in Kentucky girls’ high school basketball. Excelling at Lawrence County, Feltner became only the fourth player in state history to score 4,000 points. She finished her prep career with 4,189 career points. Feltner scored 1,039 points as a senior on her way to being a Kentucky Miss Basketball finalist. She set Lawrence County career school records for points, rebounds (1,542), assists (816) and steals (413). Feltner led the state in scoring as a senior in the 2022-23 girls’ high school basketball season, averaging 28.9 points per game. She averaged 9.4 rebounds as a high school senior. Feltner was named First Team All-State by multiple outlets. The Lawrence County High School standout was named the 15th Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. As a senior, Feltner led Lawrence County to its first 15th Region girls’ basketball championship, a Kentucky Sweet 16 appearance and a 30-6 record.
Belmont is scheduled to visit Drake for its next game on Thursday, Jan. 16.
