WHITESBURG — Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Letcher County Central 64-38 on Thursday, Jan. 23.
The Lady Eagles excelled offensively and defensively.
Johnson Central shot 44.6 percent (24-of-56) from the field. The Lady Eagles made five of 21 three-point field goal attempts.
Johnson Central shot 69.2 percent (nine-of-13) from the free throw line.
Adyson Burchett led Johnson Central to the win, scoring 18 points for the Lady Eagles.
Along with Burchett reaching double figures for Johnson Central, Kaylyn McKenzie netted 15 points. McKenzie reached a milestone during the game, scoring her 1,000th career point.
Nine different players entered Johnson Central’s scoring column. Allie Slone (eight points), Karlea Stanley (eight points), Haylee Marsillett (six points), Emma McKenzie (three points), Martina Conley (two points), Emma Ferguson (two points) and Kamryn Duncan (two points) were additional offensive contributors for the Lady Eagles.
Johnson Central, under the guidance of Coach Jim Hicks, notched its 15th win in the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season. After registering the win, Johnson Central improved to 15-3.
