Lawrence County outlasts Prestonsburg in overtime

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County outlasted Prestonsburg 68-66 in overtime in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 24.
After notching the win, Lawrence County moved to 8-8 overall and 4-0 in the 58th District.
Lawrence County shot 39.7 percent (29-of-73) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs won despite finishing 0-of-16 from three-point range.
Lawrence County shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.
Sophie Adkins recorded a game-high double-double for Lawrence County, scoring 38 points and hauling in 18 rebounds.
Supplying another double-double for Lawrence County, Jada Patton scored 14 points and claimed 11 rebounds.
In addition to the two scorers in double figures, Maddison Artrip (four points), Emalynn Kitts (four points), Caroline See (four points), Gracie Woods (two points) and Abby Maynard (two points) contributed offensively for the Lady Bulldogs.
Prestonsburg shot 36.4 percent (24-of-66) from the field in the district game. Connecting beyond the arc, Prestonsburg made three of 17 three-point field goal attempts.
The Lady Blackcats shot 60.0 percent (15-of-25) from the free throw line.
Audrey Prater scored a team-high 17 points for Prestonsburg in the district matchup. Joining Prater in double figures for Prestonsburg, Allison Howard scored 16 points, Ashley Tackett netted 13 points and Jade Fitzpatrick put up 12 points.
Nearly reaching double figures, Amelia Newsome added eight points for the Lady Blackcats.
A Lawrence County-Shelby Valley girls’ basketball game scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28 was canceled.
