Hyden leads Paintsville past West Carter 34-12

PAINTSVILLE — Senior quarterback Jake Hyden rushed for two touchdowns and accounted for a scoring strike through the air to lead Paintsville past visiting West Carter 34-12 in a non-district high school football game at Memorial Field on Saturday, Oct. 17. After notching the non-district win, Paintsville moved to 5-0. Hyden rushed 11 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Through the air, Hyden completed 7 of 11 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. West Carter scored first but Paintsville answered. The Tigers led 14-12 at intermission and dominated throughout the second half. Paintsville rushed 40 times for 273 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Harris Phelps paced Paintsville on the ground, rushing 22 times for 130 yards and one touchdown. Karsten Poe was on the receiving end of Hyden's scoring strike, hauling in a 28-yard touchdown pass reception in the back of the endzone. As part of a balanced offensive effort for the Tigers, Phelps and Jonah Porter reeled in three receptions and two receptions, respectively. Mason Lovey led Paintsville defensively, registering 11 tackles. Finishing directly behind Lovely, Hunter Ousley and Luke Hyden provided 10 tackles apiece. Providing a lift for Paintsville on the defensive side, AJ James returned an interception 94 yards for a touchdown. Paintsville is scheduled to visit Raceland for a Class A, District 6 football game on Friday, Oct. 23.
