Hughes captures Region 12 title

MAYSVILLE — Lawrnce County senior golfer Reece Hughes shot a 69 and claimed the Region 12 boys’ golf individual title at Laurel Oaks Golf Club on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The Bulldogs contended for the Region 12 boys’ golf team title. Lawrence County delivered a team score of 307, placing third behind runner-up Mason County (306) and champion Rowan County (305).

Both Hughes and teammate Ashton West advanced to the boys’ golf state tournament. West shot a 78 in the Region 12 Boys’ Golf Tournament.

Nearly advancing, another Lawrence County golfer, Mikey Akers, will be the first alternate for the boys’ golf state tournament.

After turning in a solid performance in the Region 12 Girls’ Golf Tournament, Lawrence County golfer Abby Runyon also advanced to compete in a state tourney.
