Golden Eagles to meet Paris in Coach Lake Kelly Classic

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central is scheduled to meet Paris in the Coach Lake Kelly Classic at Fleming County High School in Flemingsburg on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021.
A perennial 15th Region title contender, Johnson Central concluded the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season 17-12. The Golden Eagles lost to crosstown rival Paintsville in the 2019-20 57th District Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals.
Paris compiled an 11-18 record during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. The Greyhounds' 2019-20 season ended following a loss to George Rogers Clark in the 40th District Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals.
Johnson Central and Paris did not meet during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season.
The late Lake Kelly excelled as a basketball coach on both the collegiate and high school levels. A Flemingsburg native, Kelly guided Austin Peay State University to three NCAA appearances in two coaching stints. After guiding Austin Peay, Kelly returned to home to Fleming County to be Fleming County High school head coach in 1990. He ended his coaching career at Fleming County. He guided the Panthers to the Sweet 16 in 1998 and 1999.
