Golden Eagles soar over Perry County Central 52-7

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central pulled away to defeat visiting Perry County Central 52-7 in Class 4A, District 8 game at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Oct. 7.
After registering the win, Johnson Central improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Class 4A, District 8.
Perry County Central dropped to 5-2 overall and 0-2 in Class 4A, District 8 following the loss.
The Golden Eagles moved ahead early in the Class 4A, District 8 game. Defending Class 4A, District 8 champion Johnson Central led 36-0 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles rushed 26 times for 307 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Perry County Central.
Zack McCoart rushed 13 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns to lead Johnson Central to the Class 4A, District 8 win.
Behind McCoart, Mason Lawson rushed eight times for 86 yards and two touchdowns in the Golden Eagles’ win.
Delivering through the air for Johnson Central, quarterback Jacob Grimm completed four of four passes for 51 yards and one touchdown.
Caiden Yates hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass reception for the Golden Eagles in the victory.
Kicker Sawyer Crum paced Johnson Central on special teams, connecting on seven of seven PAT attempts and one field goal.
Dalton Matney paced Johnson Central on defense, recording six tackles for the Golden Eagles.
Logan Castle and Ryan Rice each recorded an interception for the Golden Eagles. Castle returned his picked off pass 86 yards for a touchdown.
Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Harlan County for a Class 4A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 14. Kickoff for the Johnson Central-Harlan County football game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
