Golden Eagles shut out Pirates 35-0

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central shut out Belfry 35-0 in The Barnhouse Bowl at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Oct. 28.
The Golden Eagles moved ahead early in the bowl game, which was a regular season finale for each team. Johnson Central led 14-0 at halftime and added to its lead during the second half.
Continuing to excel on the ground, Johnson Central rushed 51 times for 384 yards and five touchdowns.
Zack McCoart led Johnson Central, rushing 20 times for 181 yards and four touchdowns.
Ranking second in rushing for the Golden Eagles, Chase Price rushed 13 times for 96 yards and one touchdown.
Behind Price, Mason Lawson added 86 yards on 15 carries for the Golden Eagles.
Defensively, Johnson Central limited defending Class 3A state champion Belfry throughout the late-season game.
Ryan Rice recorded nine tackles to lead the Golden Eagles’ defensive unit. Following Rice, Dalton Matney and Logan Music registered eight tackles apiece for Johnson Central while Mason Lawson added seven tackles.
Johnson Central (8-2) is scheduled to host Lincoln County (2-8) in the opening round of the Class 4A State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 4.
