INEZ — Martin County was held to two touchdowns as East Carter pulled away to win 35-15 in a high school football regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 28.
East Carter rushed 27 times for 195 yards and four touchdowns. Braiden Bellew paced East Carter’s rushing attack, taking seven carries for 68 yards.
Bryer Holbrook, Evan Goodman, Landon Yoak and Gabriel Bernardo each provided one rushing touchdown for the Raiders.
Quentin Johnson led East Carter through the air, completing three of eight passes for 69 yards and one touchdown.
East Carter’s most productive receiver, Goodman hauled in two receptions for 47 yards.
In addition to reaching the endzone on the ground, Hall reeled in a 22-yard touchdown pass reception.
Rylan York recorded 13 tackles to lead East Carter’s defensive unit. Along with York, East Carter’s defensive effort included Goodman (11 tackles), Dustin Hall (10 tackles), Izack Messer (six tackles), Bellew (five tackles, one interception) and Connor Skaggs (five tackles, one tackle for a loss).
Martin County rushed 51 times for 263 yards and two touchdowns.
Brock Messer led Martin County’s rushing effort. Messer rushed 22 times for 116 yards.
Reaching the endzone twice as part of the Cardinals’ offensive attack, Madden Miller rushed 10 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Contributing on the ground for the Cardinals, Christopher Phillips picked up 55 yards via 13 rush attempts.
Miller led Martin County defensively, recording 14 tackles. Behind Miller’s leading defensive performance for the Cardinals, Damian Cheek and Julian Stafford registered nine tackles each.
Martin County (6-4) is scheduled to host Leslie County (5-5) in the first round of the Class 2A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 4.
