Golden Eagles rush past Letcher County Central 50-14

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central rushed past Letcher County Central 50-14 in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 4A Playoffs at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Nov. 12.
The Golden Eagles steadily pulled away for the win. Johnson Central doubled up Letcher County Central 28-14 in the first half.
The Golden Eagles rushed 47 times for 408 yards and six touchdowns in the win.
Quarterback Grant Rice led the Golden Eagles, rushing 11 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Delivering through the air, Rice completed three of five passes for 53 yards and one touchdown.
Ranking as the Golden Eagles' second-leading rusher, Matt Crum rushed 13 times for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Behind Crum in rushing for the Golden Eagles, Zack McCoart rushed 14 times for 91 yards.
Contributing to Johnson Central's offensive attack, Carter Conley and Chase Price added one rushing touchdown apiece.
Jacob Cain was on the receiving end of Rice's scoring pass.
Cain led the Golden Eagles defensively, recording eight tackles. In addition to Cain's defensive effort, Mason Lemaster and Keygan Pelfrey recorded seven tackles apiece.
Contributing for the Golden Eagles defensively, Chase Price recorded two interceptions.
Johnson Central (10-2) is scheduled to visit Corbin in the third round of the KHSAA Class 4A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 19.
