Tigers tumble at Raceland

RACELAND — Paintsville fell behind and was limited throughout the last three quarters as Raceland pulled away to win 28-14 in the second round of the KHSAA Class 1A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 12.

The loss eliminated Paintsville from the high school football postseason. Paintsville exited the 2021 high school football season 6-6.

Paintsville scored first but faltered. The Tigers and Rams were tied 7-7 at both end of the first quarter and halftime. Raceland reached the endzone in the third quarter to move ahead 14-7. Finishing strong, Raceland doubled up Paintsville 14-7 in the fourth quarter to pull out the hard-fought win.

Raceland rushed 46 times for 323 yards and four touchdowns. Noah Wallace led Raceland on the ground, rushing 20 times for 145 yards and four touchdowns.

Behind Wallace in Raceland's offensive attack, Isaac Browning rushed six times for 83 yards,.

Contributing on the ground as well as producing through the air for the Rams, quarterback Logan Lundy rushed 15 times for 47 yards.

Through the air for Raceland, Lundy completed seven of eight passes for 78 yards.

Parker Fannin was Lundy's top target, hauling in two receptions for 41 yards.

Defensively for Raceland, Jackson Heighton, Cole Conlon and Xander Jenkins recorded eight tackles apiece.

Harris Phelps paced Paintsville, rushing 15 times for 91 yards and one touchdown.

Second in rushing for the Tigers, Zach Taylor took three carries for 33 yards.

Delivering a scoring strike through the air for the Tigers, quarterback AJ James completed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Grayson Peters.

Raceland is scheduled to host Bishop Brossart in the third round of the KHSAA Class 1A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 19.
