Golden Eagles outlast Rockets in Tim Short Automotive Classic

WINCHESTER — Johnson Central outlasted Rockcastle County 70-69 in a game played as part of the Tim Short Automotive Classic at George Rogers Clark High School on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Perennial 15th Region title contender Johnson Central shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 31.2 percent (five-of-16) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 68.0 percent (17-of-25) from the free throw line.

The five starters accounted for all of Johnson Central’s scoring.

Austin Slone led Johnson Central to the win, scoring 20 points for the Golden Eagles.

Accompanying Slone in double figure for Johnson Central, Brayden Shepherd scored 17 points, Mason McKenzie netted 14 points, and Cooper Blair contributed 13 points.

Kyle Rose rounded out Johnson Central’s individual scoring, adding six points for the Golden Eagles. Rose paced Johnson Central inside, claiming seven rebounds.

Johnson Central improved to 9-2 after posting the win.

In the other games played during the Tim Short Automotive Classic it was Berea 71, Bourbon County 64; Madison Central 73, North Oldham 58 and George Rogers Clark 78, Hazard 43.
