BELFRY — Johnson Central won the Mountain Schoolboy Classic title at Belfry on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Finishing strong, Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Elliott County 68-55 in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic title game.
The Golden Eagles produced both offensively and defensively throughout the title game.
Johnson Central shot 50.0 percent (27-of-54) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 38.9 percent (seven-of-18) from three-point range.
Johnson Central shot 63.6 percent (seven-of-11) from the free throw line.
Brayden Shepherd led Johnson Central to the title-clinching victory. Shepherd scored 23 points for the Golden Eagles.
Following Shepherd in Johnson Central’s scoring column, Austin Slone netted 17 points.
Joining two of his teammates in double figures for the Golden Eagles, Mason Mckenzie scored 15 points.
Behind McKenzie, Kyle Rose (six points), Cooper Blair (four points) and Jaidon Daniel (three points) chipped in offensively for the Golden Eagles.
Rose excelled inside for Johnson Central, hauling in 11 rebounds.
