Bulldogs down Hornets in sectional semifinals

LOUISA — Lawrence County shook off a slow start and pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 79-52 during the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The Bulldogs advanced to the 2A, Section 8 Boys’ Basketball Tournament title game after registering the win.
Lawrence County and Magoffin County were tied 35-35 at halftime. But the Bulldogs controlled the second half, outscoring the Hornets 44-17 in the final two quarters.
Lawrence County shot 39.7 percent (29-of-73) from the field. The Bulldogs made 16 of 28 three-point field goal attempts.
Lawrence County shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the free throw line.
Hayden Perry led Lawrence County to the win. Perry recorded a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points and claiming 10 rebounds.
Following Perry in Lawrence County’s scoring column, Kaiden Harris netted 15 points.
Delivering another double-double,. CJ Waller scored 14 points and claimed a game-high 19 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Joining three of his teammates in dounble figures for Lawrence County, Kaden Johnson netted 11 points.
Lawrence County received scoring from 10 different players. Isaah Hughes (seven points), Caden Muncy (four points), Andrew Ratcliff (three points), Liker Fetherolf (three points), CH Whitt (one point) and Grant Cochran (one point) also contributed offensively for the Bulldogs.
Magoffin County shot 38.0 percent (19-of-50) from the field. The Hornets connected on six of 22 three-point field goal attempts.
Magoffin County shot 57.1 percent (eight-of-14) from the free throw line.
Maycen Allen scored a team-high 13 points for the Hornets. Allen was the only Magoffin County scorer to reach double figures.
Walker Russell (nine points), Parker Bowling (eight points), Caleb Lovely (five points), Evan Reed (five points), Jackson Gilliland (five points), Hunter Arnett (three points), Dason Burchett (two points) and Michael Trusty (two points) followed Allen in Magoffin County’s scoring column.
