Golden Eagles notch district win over Magoffin County 8-2

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central pulled away to defeat visiting Magoffin County 8-2 in a 57th District baseball game on Wednesday, April 13.
Cameron Kelsey started on the mound for Johnson Central and claimed the win. Kelsey pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while recording nine strikeouts.
Brock Butcher closed out the game on the mound for the Golden Eagles, pitching the final inning. Butcher pitched a perfect inning, logging two strikeouts.
Johnson Central plated eight runs on 13 hits in the win. Kelsey, Keygan Pelfrey and Gavin Crum provided two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles. Pelfrey tripled while Kelsey and Bryce Spencer each doubled for host Johnson Central in the victory.
Butcher, one of seven different Johnson Central batters to connect for one hit, drove in two runs.
The Golden Eagles returned to the win column after dropping a one-run game to Pikeville on Tuesday, April 12.

Pikeville edged Johnson Central 2-1 in a high school baseball game on Tuesday, April 12.
Working out of a relief role, Jackson Hall claimed the win on the mound for 15th Region All “A” Classic champion Pikeville.
In addition to Hall, Isaac Duty pitched in relief for the Panthers.
Dylan Thompson started on the mound for Pikeville in the high school baseball matchup.
The three Pikeville pitchers combined to record 19 strikeouts.
Hunter Blevins started on the mound for Johnson Central and suffered the loss. Blevins allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while registering seven strikeouts over six innings.
Pikeville plated two runs on six hits.
Sam Wright led Pikeville at the plate, collecting two hits in three at-bats and driving in one run.
Following Wright, Bradyn Hall added one hit and one RBI for the Panthers.
Johnson Central was limited to three hits in the short effort. Brock Butcher, Conner Lemaster and Matt Crum delivered one hit apiece for the Golden Eagles. Crum drove in Johnson Central’s lone run.
