PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central leveled visiting Waverly (Ohio) 54-7 in the Hutch Bowl at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Sept. 16.
The Golden Eagles returned to the win column following back-to-back losses to North Laurel and Ironton (Ohio).
Johnson Central improved to 3-2 after notching the win.
Host Johnson Central set the tone early and pulled away to win convincingly.
The Golden Eagles rushed 47 times for 401 yards and six touchdowns.
Zack McCoart led Johnson Central on the ground, rushing 11 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
Following McCoart, Mason Lawson rushed 10 times for 91 yards.
Jacob Grimm added two rushing touchdowns while Logan Music and Christian Barnes provided one rushing touchdown apiece.
Grimm led Johnson Central through the air, completing all three of his pass attempts for 90 yards and one touchdown.
Lawson led Johnson Central in receiving, making two receptions for 64 yards.
Producing on the ground and through the air, McCoart hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass reception for the Golden Eagles.
Chase Price and Chandler Spradlin recorded nine tackles apiece to lead Johnson Central’s defensive unit.
Providing a defensive in Johnson Central’s win, Music returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown.
Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Clay County for a Class 4A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 23.
