Bulldogs rush past Hornets 58-26

LOUISA — Lawrence County rushed past Magoffin County 58-26 on the road in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 overall and opened 1-0 in Class 3A, District 8 after posting the win.

Lawrence County led at the conclusion of each quarter. After taking a 15-8 lead out of the first quarter, Lawrence County outscored Magoffin County 22-6 in the second period to lead 37-14 at halftime.

Extending its lead after halftime, Lawrence County outscored Magoffin County 14-6 in the third quarter.

Lawrence County rushed 25 times for 279 yards and five touchdowns.

Dylan Ferguson led Lawrence County’s offensive unit, rushing seven times for 90 yards and one touchdown.

Following Ferguson on the ground for the Bulldogs, Ryan Marcum rushed eight times for 87 yards and one touchdown.

Cody Crum finished as the Bulldogs’ third-leading rusher with 60 yards and two touchdowns via five carries.

Also active in the Bulldogs’ rushing attack, Lawson Baisden rushed two times for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Aden Barnett paced Magoffin County, completing 22 of 40 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown. Barnett threw two interceptions but excelled on the ground, rushing 15 times for 137 yards and one touchdown.

Contributing to Magoffin County’s offensive attack, Grayson Whitaker rushed for one touchdown and was on the receiving end of Barnett’s scoring strike for a receiving TD.

Lawrence County is scheduled to visit East Carter for a non-district game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23.
