Golden Eagles knock off Knott County Central, 70-60

HAZARD – Notching its third straight win, Johnson Central defeated Knott County Central 70-60 in the Big Lou Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Perry County Central High School on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Johnson Central shot 45.2 percent (19-of-42) from the field in the win. The Golden Eagles shot 35.3 percent (six-of-17) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 70.3 percent (26-of-37) from the free throw line.

Grant Rice scored a game-high 33 points to lead Johnson Central to the win.

Providing a double-double for the Golden Eagles, Ryan Rose scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Accompanying Rice and Rose in double figures for Johnson Central, Connor Lemaster netted 10 points.

The Golden Eagles remained in the win column after defeating Belfry and Magoffin County earlier in the week.

Knott County Central slipped back into the loss column after defeating Floyd Central 61-48 two days earlier.

Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Paintsville for a 57th District boys' basketball game on Thursday, Jan. 20, Tip-off for the Johnson Central-Paintsville boys' basketball game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
