Adkins leads Bulldogs over Christian Academy-Louisville

OWENSBORO – Trenton Adkins recorded a double-double to lead Lawrence County over Christian Academy-Louisville 75-54 in the Kentucky 2A State Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Adkins scored 23 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the win. Among the top boys' high school basketball players in the 15th Region, Adkins connected on nine of 13 two-point field goal attempts.

The Bulldogs moved ahead early during the tournament game and forced Christian Academy-Louisville to play from behind. Lawrence County outscored Christian Academy-Louisville 25-11 in the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs led 39-33 at halftime and finished strong, outscoring Christian Academy-Louisville 19-9 in the final period.

Lawrence County shot 57.1 percent (28-of-49) from the field. The Bulldogs shot 53.3 percent (eight-of-15) from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line.

Four Lawrence County players reached double figures in scoring. Accompanying Adkins in double figures for the Bulldogs, Anthony Johnson added 17 points, Cody Maynard contributed 16 points and Will Lafferty tallied 11 points.

Following the win over Christian Academy-Louisville, Lawrence County advanced to meet Knox Central. A member of the 13th Region, Knox Central pulled away to defeat the Bulldogs 89-64 on Saturday, Jan. 15. The loss eliminated Lawrence County from the Kentucky 2A State Boys' Basketball Tournament.
