Golden Eagles hold off Lions

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central held on to defeat Boyd County 21-14 in a Class 4A, District 6 game at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Sept. 26.

The Golden Eagles moved to 6-0 after registering the win. Johnson Central won on homecoming.

Owning an advantage midway through the Class 4A, District 6 game, Johnson Central led 14-7 at halftime.  

The Goldon Eagles rushed 56 times for 412 yards and three touchdowns. Back from an injury, senior fullback Logan Morrow rushed 14 times for a team-high 115 yards in Johnson Central’s win. Following Morrow in Johnson Central’s offensive attack, Logan Music rushed 11 times for 108 yards. Braxton Perry, another consistent running back for Johnson Central, took 10 carries for 88 yards. Excelling on the ground in Johnson Central’s victory, Collin Cantrell rushed 11 times for 60 yards and three touchdowns.  

Defensively for Johnson Central, Dylan Lemaster recorded a team-high 10 tackles while Rylan Kelsey and JD Morris posted nine tackles apiece.

Disruptive in Boyd County’s backfield, Drew Ferguson and Ijah Ferguson each recorded one sack for the Golden Eagles.

Producing on special teams for Johnson Central., kicker Mason Bentley made each of his three extra-point kick attempts.

Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Class 4A foe Corbin for a non-district game on Friday, Oct. 3.
