Golden Eagles fend off East Ridge 71-65

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central fended off visiting East Ridge 71-65 in a boys' high school basketball game on Friday, Jan. 22.
After notching the win, Johnson Central moved to 6-1.
East Ridge dropped to 4-2 after suffering the loss.
The Golden Eagles and Warriors met for a battle between former 15th Region boys' basketball champions.
Johnson Central shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the field. The Golden Eagles were 8-of-25 (32 percent) from 3-point range.
Johnson Central shot 75 percent (15-of-20) from the free throw line.
Cory VanHoose scored 22 points to lead Johnson Central to the win. VanHoose finished 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Following VanHoose in scoring for the Golden Eagles, Isaiah May added 20 points.
Joining VanHoose and May in double figures in scoring for Johnson Central, Ryleigh McKenzie netted 10 points.
Nearly reaching double figures, Grant Rice added nine points for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles and Warriors aren't scheduled to meet again during the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season
