LOUISA — Lawrence County fell short as visiting Boyd County, a former 16th Region rival, pulled away to win 76-67 on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
The Bulldogs and Lions met for the first time in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season.
Boyd County shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field. The Lions were 8-of-22 from 3-point range, shooting 36.4 percent beyond the arc.
Boyd County shot 60 percent (12-of-20) from the free throw line.
Rheyce Deboard scored 22 points to lead the Lions. Thriving beyond the arc, Deboard connected on 6-of-7 3-point field goal attempts.
Joining Deboard in double figures in scoring for Boyd County, Austin Gibbs netted 16 points and Carson Webb contributed 11 points.
Flirting with double figures for Boyd County, Dawson Meade scored nine points.
Jason Ellis (six points), Brad Newsome (five points),Graden McNeil (three points), Austin Cumpton (two points) and J.B. Walter followed Meade in scoring for the Lions.
Lawrence County shot 44 percent (22-of-50) from the field in the loss. The Bulldogs were 6-of-20 (30 percent) from 3-point range.
Lawrence County shot 63 percent (17-of-27) from the free throw line.
Cody Maynard paced Lawrence County, scoring a game-high 29 points for the Bulldogs. Maynard was 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
Trenton Adkins accompanied Maynard in double figures in scoring for the Bulldogs, posting 14 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Will Lafferty added nine points while Baden Gillispie tossed in eight points.
Kaden Gillispie and Zach Holt rounded out Lawrence County's individual scoring, tallying five points and two points, respectively.
Adkins led Lawrence County around the goal, securing nine rebounds.
