Golden Eagles fall to Shelby Valley in WYMT Mountain Classic

HINDMAN — Johnson Central remained in the loss column as Shelby Valley pulled away to win 64-53 in the WYMT Mountain Classic at Knott County Central High School on Saturday, Dec. 11.
The Golden Eagles and Wildcats, 15th Region rivals, met for an early-season tournament matchup.
Shelby Valley shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field. The Wildcats finished eight of 15 (53.3 percent) from three-point range.
Shelby Valley shot 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the free throw line.
Collier Fuller scored 20 points to lead Shelby Valley to the win.
Fuller paced three Shelby Valley scorers in double figures.
Accompanying Fuller in double figures in scoring for the Wildcats, Caleb Lovins netted 12 points and Russ Osborne added 11 points.
Lovins recorded a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds in the Wildcats' win.
Johnson Central shot 30 percent (21-of-70) from the field. The Golden Eagles knocked down eight of 32 three-point field goal attempts.
Struggling to connect from the free throw line, Johnson Central hit three of 17 foul shots.
Jacob Butcher paced Johnson Central with a double-double, scoring 14 points and hauling down 12 rebounds.
Butcher was the only Johnson Central player to reach double figures in scoring.
Behind Butcher, Ryan Rose and Reece Collins scored eight points apiece for the Golden Eagles. Rose, a transfer from Prestonsburg, added 12 rebounds.
Johnson Central managed to outrebound Shelby Valley 40-38 in the setback.
