Golden Eagles double up Boyd County 28-14

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central doubled up Boyd County 28-14 in the second round of the KHSAA Class 4A State Football Playoffs at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Nov. 10.

The Golden Eagles battled back from behind to beat District 6 rival Boyd County in the postseason matchup. Boyd County faltered after leading 14-7 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles rushed 59 times for 413 yards and four touchdowns. Six different running backs rushed for positive yardage in Johnson Central’s win.

Logan Music led Johnson Central on the ground, rushing 16 times for 137 yards.

Following Music, Dalton Matney rushed 13 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

Behind Matney, Christian Barnes rushed 14 times for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

Aiding Johnson Central’s rushing attack, Logan Morrow gained 54 yards via six carries.

Through the air, Johnson Central quarterback Jacob Grimm completed three passes for 58 yards.

Music, Hunter Howard and Seth Kliebert each reeled in one reception for the Golden Eagles.

Defensively for Johnson Central, Logan Castle recorded eight tackles while Caleb Barnes and Dylan Lemaster added seven tackles apiece.

Producing for Johnson Central in its secondary, Music, Brayden Shepherd and Weston Jude each supplied one interception.

Dakota Thompson and Rhett Holbrook each provided one rushing touchdown for the Lions. However, Boyd County rushed 27 times for only 46 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson Central will visit Covington Catholic for a third round game in the KHSAA Class 4A State Football Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 17. The Golden Eagles and Colonels will battle for a region championship.
