Bulldogs come up short at Rockcastle County

MOUNT VERNON — Lawrence County came up short as Rockcastle County held on to win 31-28 in the second round of the KHSAA Class 3A State Football Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 10.

The loss eliminated Lawrence County from the KHSAA Class 3A State Football Playoffs. Lawrence County exited the 2023 high school football season 8-4.

Rockcastle County scored first and never trailed, leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

After controlling the first half, Rockcastle County led 21-8 at halftime.

Extending its lead, Rockcastle County moved ahead 28-8 in the third period.

Prior to falling short, Lawrence County managed to outscore Rockcastle County 20-3 in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Tucker Warren led Rockcastle County (11-1) to the win, completing 12 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Tucker threw one interception.

Caleb Moore paced the Rockets in receiving. Moore hauled in five receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Leading Rockcastle County on the ground as well as through the air, Warren rushed 23 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Talon Pollack led the Bulldogs. Pollack completed 20 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns while throwing two interceptions. Pacing Lawrence County on the ground, Pollack rushed 11 times for 52 yards.

Kaden Johnson paced Lawrence County in receiving, reeling in six receptions for 147 yards and one touchdown.

Along with Johnson, Jake Derifield (three receptions for 59 yards), Cody Crum (three receptions for 46 yards), Dalton Runyons (five catches for 28 yards) and Carlo Chicko (two receptions for eight yards) made multiple catches for the Bulldogs.

Accounting for Lawrence County’s other scoring catch, Logan Ratliff hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass reception.

Producing on the ground for Lawrence County, William McDavid provided two rushing touchdowns.
