PAINTSVILLE — Isaiah May and Cory VanHoose scored 18 points apiece as Johnson Central pulled away to defeat visiting Magoffin County 91-51 in a 57th District boys' basketball game at Paul R. Setser Fieldhouse on Thursday, Jan. 14.

After notching the win, Johnson Central improved to 4-1 overall and opened 1-0 in the 57th District.

Magoffin County dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the district as a result of the loss.

Kamen Slone added 15 points for current 15th Region frontrunner Johnson Central in the district win.

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for the Golden Eagles, John King netted nine points.

Ryleh McKenzie, Ryan Sartin-Slone and Toby Spriggs chipped in six points apiece for the Golden Eagles.

Johnson Central shot 55 percent (33-of-60) from the field. The Golden Eagles were 8-of-21 (38.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Johnson Central shot 81 percent (17-of-21) from the free throw line.

Magoffin County was forced to play from behind throughout the district contest.

Johnson Central was set to host crosstown rival Paintsville in another 57th District boys' basketball game at press time on Tuesday.
