Bulldogs sweep district series from Floyd Central

LOUISA — Defending champion Lawrence County swept Floyd Central in a 58th District baseball series Thursday, March 24-Friday, March 25.

Lawrence County 11, Floyd Central 1 (5 innings): Lawrence County pulled away to defeat visiting Floyd Central 11-1 in five innings in a 58th District baseball game on Friday, March 25.

The Bulldogs defeated the Jaguars for the second time in 24 hours.

Jake Derifield earned the win on the mound. Derifield pitched four innings for the Bulldogs, allowing one earned run on four hits while recording two strikeouts.

Will Lafferty closed the game out on the mound for Lawrence County, pitching the final inning.

Kolten Crum started on the mound for Floyd Central and suffered the loss.

Abner Collinsworth, Grover Maynard, Blue Fletcher and Luke Patton each went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs. Collinsworth homered in the Bulldogs’ district win. Both Collinsworth and Maynard delivered two RBIs.

Cole Lafferty drove in Floyd Central’s only run during the district matchup.

Lawrence County upended Floyd Central 10-7 in a 58th District baseball game on Thursday, March 24.

The Bulldogs scored first and never trailed. Setting the tone early, Lawrence County plated six runs in the top half of the first inning.

Lawrence County starting pitcher Talon Pollock picked up the win on the mound. Pollock pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits while recording four strikeouts. Dylan Whitt and Eli Fletcher each pitched in relief for the Bulldogs. Fletcher recorded the last two outs to claim the save.

Dylan Mosley suffered the pitching loss for the Jaguars. Mosley pitched two and a third innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out one.

Lawrence County outhit Floyd Central 14-11.

Nick Collinsworth, Bryce Blevins, Blue Fletcher and Eli Fletcher each logged multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Collinsworth led Lawrence County at the plate, delivering four hits in five at-bats.

Jacob Bentley, Nick Rackey, Wesley Prater and Koleton Crum provided two hits apiece for the Jaguars.
