PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central blanked Betsy Layne 7-0 in an early-season game on Tuesday, March 19.

A pair of Johnson Central pitchers combined to pitch a one-hit shutout.

Cameron Kelsey started on the mound for Johnson Central and earned the win. Kelsey pitched four innings, allowing one hit while recording eight strikeouts.

Ethan McCarty closed out the game on the mound for the Golden Eagles. McCarty pitched the final three innings, recording five strikeouts.

Eli Mitchell started on the mound for Betsy Layne and suffered the loss. Mitchell pitched five innings, allowing five runs on three hits while recording two strikeouts.

Keaton Brown pitched in relief for Betsy Layne, allowing two runs on three hits while tallying one strikeout.

Johnson Central scored seven runs on five hits. Kelsey (one hit, two RBIs), McCarty (one RBI), Brayden Shepherd (one hit, three RBIs), Andrew Meeks (one hit), Kaleb Callaham (one hit), Cash Parks (one hit) and Brock Butcher (one RBI) each delivered offensively for the Golden Eagles. Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Kelsey doubled.

Breaking up a no-hitter, Canyon Slone connected for Betsy Layne’s lone hit.
