Bulldogs beat Blackcats 16-6 in 5 innings

LOUISA — Lawrence County pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 16-6 in five innings in a 58th District baseball game at Randy Keeton Field on Thursday, March 21.

The Bulldogs bounced back to win after dropping a 58th District game to the Blackcats one day earlier.

Pitching in relief for Lawrence County, Gray Derifield earned the win. Derifield pitched two and one-third innings, allowing one hit while recording two strikeouts.

In addition to Derifield, Boedy Maynard made a relief appearance for host Lawrence County.

Ford Scaggs started on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Kaden Allen started on the mound for Prestonsburg and suffered the loss.

Contributing on the mound, Barrett Hunter and Brody Napier each pitched in relief for the Blackcats.

Lawrence County scored 16 runs on nine hits. Maynard (one RBI), Talan Pollock (three hits, three RBIs), Colin Howard (three hits, two RBIs), Logan Whisenant (one hit, three RBIs), Eli Fletcher (one hit, two RBIs), Jake Derifield (one hit, one RBI) and Blake Prater (one RBI) each thrived offensively for the Bulldogs. Both Pollock and Howard doubled.

Prestonsburg plated six runs on six hits. Nic Kidd (two hits, three RBIs), Brady Allen (two hits), Kaden Allen (one hit, one RBI), Luke Hall (one hit) and Logan Stumbo (one RBI) were each active at the plate for visiting Prestonsburg. Kidd homered for the Blackcats.
