BETSY LAYNE — Visiting Johnson Central blanked Betsy Layne 10-0 in six innings in a high school baseball game on Thursday, March 17.

Bryce Spencer started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and claimed the win. Spencer pitched five innings, allowing only one hit while recording nine strikeouts.

Jason Price, working out of a relief role for Johnson Central, notched the save. Price pitched one inning, giving up one walk while registering two strikeouts.

Johnson Central moved ahead early and forced Betsy Layne to play from behind throughout the high school baseball game.

Connor Lemaster led Johnson Central at the plate, collecting two hits in three at-bats. Lemaster homered twice and drove in three runs.

Spencer, Keygan Pelfrey, Matt Crum, Cameron Kelsey and Toby Kelly added one hit apiece for the Golden Eagles.

Pelfrey, Crum, Brock Butcher and Cole Ward each drove in one run in Johnson Central’s winning effort.

The Golden Eagles dealt Betsy Layne a loss in first-year head coach Dylan Hamilton’s debut.

Johnson Central won after suffering a shutout loss to Lawrence County in a season opener on Tuesday, March 15.
