Four players hit home runs in win over Betsy Layne

STANVILLE — Lawrence County shut out host Betsy Layne 19-0 in four innings in a 58th District softball game on Monday, April 13.

Taylor Blevins and Brinley Baisden combined to pitch a one-hit shutout for the Lady Bulldogs. Blevins started in the circle for Lawrence County and earned the win. The Lawrence County starter pitched one inning and struck out one Betsy Layne batter. Working out of a relief role for Lawrence County, Baisden pitched three innings and recorded seven strikeouts.

Marissa Blankenship started in the circle for Betsy Layne and suffered the loss. Blankenship pitched the first two innings.

Hannah Jarrell replaced Blankenship in the circle for the Ladycats. Jarrell pitched the final two innings in relief.

Twelve of Lawrence County’s 15 players connected for hits. Four players homered for the Lady Bulldogs. Brinley Baisden, Jada Patton, Ella Smith and Emalynn Kitts each homered In Lawrence County’s shutout win. Baisden belted a grand slam and collected six RBIs. Providing additional extra-base hits for Lawrence County, Millie Sammons and Laila Dolen each doubled.

Breaking up a no-hitter, Jayden Jarrell doubled for Betsy Layne in the district game.
