Fletcher homers twice in Bulldogs’ win over Jaguars

EASTERN — Eli Fletcher homered twice as Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Floyd Central 9-1 in a 58th District baseball game on Thursday, May 1.
Following the win, Lawrence County improved to 13-9 overall and 5-1 in the 58th District. The win allowed Lawrence County to secure the number one seed for the upcoming 58th District Baseball Tournament.
Boedy Maynard pitched a complete game for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Maynard, who limited Floyd Central to one run on three hits, recorded nine strikeouts.
Mason Anderson started on the mound for Floyd Central and suffered the loss. Anderson pitched three innings and struck out one Lawrence County batter.
Another pitcher, Jace Martin, replaced Anderson on the mound and pitched the last four innings in relief for the Jaguars. Martin recorded five strikeouts
Lawrence County scored nine runs on 13 hits. Fletcher (three hits, two RBIs), Tyger Cavins (three hits, three RBIs), Logan Whisenant (three hits, one RBI), Gray Derifield (three hits), Colin Howard (one hit, one RBI), Brady Caudill (one RBI) and Owen Pack (one RBI) each delivered at the plate in Lawrence County’s convincing victory.
Floyd Central pushed across one run on three hits. Martin (one hit), Logan Moore (one hit, one RBI) and Grant Jenkins (one hit) each chipped in offensively for the Jaguars.
