Cardinals capture 15th Region All ‘A’ Classic championship

PIKEVILLE — Martin County topped 57th District rival Paintsville 68-51 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic boys’ basketball tournament title game at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday, Jan. 17.
The Cardinals gradually pulled away to win convincingly.
Martin County shot 59.6 percent (28-of-47) from the field. The Cardinals made one of seven three-point field goal attempts.
Martin County shot 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free throw line.
Parker Watts led Martin County to the championship-clinching win, pouring in a game-high 41 points.
Accompanying Watts in double figures for Martin County, Bryson Dials scored 15 points.
Four players accounted for all of Martin County’s scoring. Devan Maynard added eight points for Martin County while Peyton Davis posted four points.
Brayden Estep paced Martin County inside, collecting 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Ethan Cole scored a team-high 14 points for Paintsville in the tournament title game.
Accompanying Cole in double figures for Paintsville, Anderson Lauffer scored 11 points while Jase Kinner and Parker Helton netted nine points apiece.
Finishing in single digits for Paintsville, Brock Woods added six points and Colton Short contributed two points.
