Eagles edge Tigers for 57th District title

SALYERSVILLE — Johnson Central held on to edge crosstown rival Paintsville 2-1 in the 57th District Baseball Tournament title game at Magoffin County High School on Monday, May 31.

Cameron Kelsey earned the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Kelsey pitched six and one-third innings, allowing one run on five hits while recording three strikeouts and giving up five walks.

Gavin Crum closed the game out on the mound for Johnson Central. Crum notched the save, holding Paintsville scoreless over two-thirds of an inning.

Connor Fugate started on the mound for the Tigers and suffered the pitching loss. Fugate pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits while recording eight strikeouts and giving up six walks.

Zach Taylor closed the game out on the mound for Paintsville. Taylor allowed zero runs on two hits over two innings, recording four strikeouts while giving up one walk.

Johnson Central plated two runs on five hits. Ryan Sartin-Slone and Keygan Pelfrey recorded two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles.

Contributing offensively for Johnson Central, Conner Lemaster added one hit and drove in one of the Eagles' two runs.

Paintsville plated one run on five hits.

Gunner Collins, Ashton Adams, Harris Phelps, Ashton Miller and Baron Ratliff recorded one hit apiece for the Tigers. Ratliff drove in the Tigers' only run.

Both Johnson Central and Paintsville advanced to the 15th Region Baseball Tournament.
