Dawgs defeat defending 14th Region champ Breathitt County

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County pushed past defending 14th Region champion Breathitt County 78-71 in the Prestonsburg Holiday Classic on Friday, Dec. 22.

Lawrence County shot 42.9 percent (30-of-70) from the field in its winning effort. The Bulldogs made seven of 24 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free throw line.

Luke Fetherolf scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs. Fetherolf connected on four of eight three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying Fetherolf in double figures for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry scored 15 points and Ford Scaggs netted 10 points.

Barely missing double figures for the Bulldogs, Blake Marcum and Andrew Bloomfield netted nine points apiece.

Lawrence County received scoring from eight different players. Logan Ratliff (eight points), Kaden Johnson (five points) and Braxton Davis (four points) were Lawrence County’s additional scorers.

Breathitt County lost despite shooting 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the field. The Bobcats made four of 15 three-point field goal attempts.

Breathitt County, which featured four scorers in double figures, shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the free throw line.

Isaac Bellamy scored 19 points to lead the Bobcats. In addition to Bellamy reaching double figures for Breathitt County, Jaxon Hamilton scored 15 points, Braxton Terry netted 13 points and Payton Collins added 10 points.

As part of a balanced offensive attack for Breathitt County, Canaan Gross contributed eight points and Aaron Stallard chipped in six points.

Nearly recording a double-double for Breathitt County, Terry claimed a game-high nine rebounds.

Lawrence County 72, Shelby Valley 68: Lawrence County outlasted Shelby Valley 72-68 in the Prestonsburg Christmas Classic on Thursday, Dec. 21.

The Bulldogs shot 38.8 percent (26-of-67) from the field. Lawrence County made 10 of 34 three-point field goal attempts.

The Bulldogs shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from the free throw line.

Hayden Perry and Andrew Bloomfield scored 21 points apiece to lead Lawrence County to the win.

Nearly reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Logan Ratliff and Blake Marcum each netted nine points.

Contributing to Lawrence County’s win, Kaden Johnson added six points while Luke Fetherolf and Braxton Davis chipped in three points apiece.

Shelby Valley lost despite shooting 56.8 percent (25-of-44) from the field. The Wildcats shot 30 percent (six-of-20) from three-point range.

Shelby Valley shot 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free throw line.

Riley Phillips scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Wildcats. Phillips made nine of 10 two-point field goal attempts.

Joining Phillips in double figures for the Wildcats, Robert Stewart scored 14 points and Ethan Sykes netted 11 points.

Finishing near double figures for Shelby Valley, Logan Johnson and Bruce Coleman added eight points apiece.

Accounting for the rest of Lawrence County’s scoring, Jonah Bartley chipped in two points.
