Davis pitches one-hit shutout for Bulldogs

SALYERSVILLE — Braxton Davis pitched a one-hit shutout as Lawrence County blanked Magoffin County 14-0 in five innings on Friday, May 9.

Lawrence County improved to 16-10 after shutting out Magoffin County.

The Bulldogs started strong, scoring four runs in the top half of the first inning.

Lawrence County led 8-0 after the third inning and managed to extend its lead. The Bulldogs erupted for six runs in the top half of the fourth inning to move ahead 14-0.

Davis, who earned the win on the mound, recorded nine strikeouts.

Hunter Arnett started on the mound for Magoffin County and suffered the loss.

Following Arnett on the hill, Isaac Howard, Evan Reed, Brayden Carroll and Brayden Bailey each pitched in relief for the Hornets.

Lawrence County scored 14 runs on 10 hits. Gray Derifield (three hits), Tyger Cavins (two hits, five RBIs), Owen Pack (two hits, three RBIs), Logan Whisenant (one hit, one RBI), Brady Caudill (one hit, one RBI), Colin Howard (one hit), Eli Fletcher (one RBI), Boedy Maynard (one RBI) and Cameron Perkins (one RBI) each thrived offensively for the Bulldogs.  

Breaking up a no-hitter, Chance Risner connected at the plate for Magoffin County’s lone hit.
