Cardinals to open 2021 season on road at Leslie County

INEZ — Martin County is poised to open the 2021 high school football season on the road at Leslie County on Friday, Aug. 20.

The Cardinals and Eagles are rivals from bordering districts.

Following its season opener, Martin County is slated to host Greenup County for a home opener one week later on Friday, Aug. 27.

Martin County has additional away games scheduled versus Knott County Central, East Ridge, West Carter and East Carter.

The Cardinals have other home games on tap against Fleming County, Bath County, Shelby Valley and Prestonsburg.

Following a loss to Shelby Valley in the opening round of the Class 2A Playoffs, Martin County concluded the 2020 season 3-4.

After falling to Breathitt County in the opening round of the Class 2A Playoffs, Leslie County exited the 2020 season 2-5.

The Cardinals compete with Bath County, East Ridge, Prestonsburg and Shelby Valley in Class 2A, District 8.

Martin County will open preseason practice in July.
