Cardinals rush past Leslie County 40-7
Skyla Messer was crowned the 2021 Martin County High School Homecoming Queen. First runner-up was Jayla Dials and second runner-up was Kaylee Harless. The senior homecoming court was Anesa Blanton, Chloe Fields, Allicen Grayson, Emily McMillan, Carmela Moore, Hannah Muncy, Brittany Thompson and Lexi Vanover. Junior princesses were Bailey Dials and Brooke Proctor; Sophomore princesses were Heather Spence and Katelynn Hale. Freshmen princesses were Alyssa Jewell, Jaylee Deskins and Chloe Vanderpool.

INEZ — Martin County rushed past visiting Leslie County 40-7 in a high school football game on Friday, Sept. 24.
The Cardinals and Eagles met for a non-district matchup.
Moving ahead early, Martin County took control of the district game during the opening quarter.
Martin County rushed 32 times for 315 yards and five touchdowns in the win.
Dawson Mills led Martin County on the ground, rushing seven times for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
Behind Mills, Sparks rushed eight times for 78 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals' victory.
Contributing to Martin County's rushing attack, Branson Smith rushed five times for 58 yards.
Nine different Martin County players rushed for positive yardage.
Through the air for the Cardinals, Jason Maynard completed two of three passes for 55 yards and one touchdown.
Reaching the endzone via the ground and through the air, Mills hauled in a 50-yard touchdown pass reception for the Cardinals.
Defensively for Martin County, Caleb Costa recorded a team-high seven tackles.
Martin County is scheduled to visit East Ridge for a Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 1.
