Cardinals knock off Golden Eagles 58-54

INEZ – Martin County knocked off visiting Johnson Central 58-54 in a 57th District boys' basketball game Monday, Jan. 3.

Martin County shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field in the district win. The Cardinals shot 37.5 percent (six-of-16) from three-point range.

Martin County shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.

Luke Hale scored a game-high 23 points to lead Martin County to the district victory. Hale hit five of eight three-point field goal attempts.

Joining Hale in double figures for the Cardinals, Brady Dingess netted 18 points.

Nearly recording a double-double for Martin County, Jordan Dalton added nine points and 10 rebounds in the Cardinals' win.

Johnson Central shot 32.3 percent (21-of-65) from the field. The Golden Eagles connected on four of 15 three-point field goal attempts.

Johnson Central shot 53.3 percent (eight-of-15) from the free throw line.

Jacob Butcher recorded a double-double to lead the Golden Eagles, scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Joining Butcher in double figures for Johnson Central, Grant Rice scored 11 points and Ryleh McKenzie netted 10 points.

Narrowly missing a double-double for Johnson Central, Ryan Rose scored nine points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Johnson Central is scheduled to host Martin County for a 57th District boys' basketball game on Monday, Jan. 31.
