Cardinals knock off Bath County 14-10

OWINGSVILLE — Returning to the win column on the road, Martin County knocked off host Bath County 14-10 in a Class 2A, District 8 football game on Friday, Sept. 25. The win allowed Martin County to improve to 2-1 overall and open 1-0 in Class 2A, District 8.Bath County dropped to 0-3 overall and opened 0-1 in the district after suffering the loss. Quarterback Jason Maynard led Martin County to the victory, completing five of eight passes for 123 yards and one touchdown. Parker Davis was Maynard's top target, reeling in four receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown in the Cardinals' winning effort. Martin County finished with 306 yards of total offense. Branson Smith led the Cardinals on the ground, rushing 11 times for 81 yards and one touchdown. Contributing to Martin County's rushing attack, Kolby Sparks rushed 10 times for 56 yards. Another Martin County running back, Dawson Mills, rushed three times for 40 yards. Jacob Carter added a two-point conversion for the Cardinals in the win. Bath County rushed 44 times for 208 yards in the loss. The Wildcats didn't pick up any passing yards in the district matchup. Running back Carter Hall led Bath County, rushing 15 times for 81 yards and one touchdown. Following Hall in rushing for the Wildcats, Quentin Lewis rushed 20 times for 77 yards. Martin County is scheduled to host Class 2A, District 8 rival East Ridge for a home opener at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2.
