Cardinals handle Hornets

INEZ — Winning at home, Martin County defeated Magoffin County 87-66 in a 57th District boys’ basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The game served as a regular season finale for the Cardinals.

Martin County shot 50.7 percent (35-of-69) from the field. The Cardinals made 10 of 34 three-point field goal attempts.

Martin County shot 63.6 percent (seven-of-11) from the free throw line.

Parker Watts and Bryson Dials combined to lead Martin County to the district win, scoring 21 points apiece for the Cardinals. Together, Watts and Dials connected on four of nine three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying the co-leading scorers in double figures for Martin County, Devan Maynard scored 12 points and Peyton Davis netted 10 points.

A dozen different players provided scoring for the Cardinals. Brayden Estep (six points), Eli Mills (three points), Brayden Marcum (three points), Aiden Armstrong (three points), Skyler Morrison (three points), Braxton Maynard (two points), Tanner Jennings (two points) and BJ Parsley (one point) also contributed offensively for the Cardinals.
