Adkins named 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year

LOUISA — Lawrence County senior guard Sophie Adkins has been named the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) announced Adkins as the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year on Friday, Feb. 22.

Adkins has led Lawrence County throughout the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season. A longtime standout for Lawrence County, Adkins entered the postseason averaging 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for the Lady Bulldogs.

This is her second year of being honored with the title. This award also means she will be in the running for the title of Kentucky’s “Miss Basketball” in March.

Floyd Central head coach Tyler Little has been named the 15th Region Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year.

The girls’ high school basketball honorees from throughout the state are as follows: Region 1 - Hannah Glisson (Graves County), Region 2 - Nevaeh Day (Christian County), Region 3 - Peyton Bradley (Meade County), Region 4 - Lareehsa Cawthorn (Franklin-Simpson), Region 5 - Leah Macy (Bethlehem), Region 6 - Noel Smith (Whitefield Academy), Region 7 - Zakiyah Johnson (Sacred Heart), Region 8 - Lainey Johnson (Anderson County), Region 9 - Caroline Eaglin (Newport Central Catholic), Region 10 (tie) - Ciara Byars (George Rogers Clark), Region 10 (tie) - Nicole Archibald (Bracken County), Region 10 (tie) - Brooklyn White (Paris), Region 11 - Nataya Strader (Madison Central), Region 12 - Grace Mbugua (Danville Christian), Region 13 - Brooke Nichelsen (North Laurel), Region 14 - Kyra McAlarnis (Knott County Central), Region 15 - Sophie Adkins (Lawrence County), Region 16 - Kenleigh Woods (Ashland).
