Cardinals edge Knox Central in overtime

INEZ — Martin County edged Knox Central 42-41 in overtime on Friday, Sept. 12.
The Cardinals improved to 3-1 after claiming the win.
For the third straight week, Martin County scored 40-plus points and won.
Devan Maynard and Crayson Lafferty combined to lead Martin County to the win.
Through the air, Maynard completed eight passes for 115 yards. On the ground, Maynard rushed 19 times for 131 yards and one touchdown.
Lafferty ranked as Martin County’s leading rusher, taking 23 carries for 149 yards and four touchdowns.
Gavin Stepp and Rex Ward combined to haul in seven receptions for 107 yards for the Cardinals.
Defensively for Martin County, Lafferty recorded 22 tackles while Maynard returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown.
Following Lafferty, Easton Slone registered 11 tackles for the Cardinals. Behind Slone, Maynard and Braxton Carter posted eight tackles apiece.
Kicker Sebastian Genovese connected on four of five extra point kick attempts in Martin County’s thrilling win.
Martiin County is scheduled to visit Shelby Valley for its next game on Friday, Sept. 19.
