Cardinals defeat Floyd Central 35-6

EASTERN — Martin County scored first and never trailed on its way to defeating Floyd Central 35-6 in a Class 2A, District 7 matchup on Friday, Oct. 25.

After recording the win, Martin County improved to 6-3 overall and finished 2-1 in Class 2A, District 7.

Floyd Central slipped to 0-9 overall and finished 0-3 in Class 2A, District 7 after absorbing the loss.

Martin County outscored Floyd Central 7-0 in the opening quarter.

Extending its lead, Martin County entered halftime ahead 21-0.

Remaining in control during the second half, Martin County led 28-7 at the end of the third period.

Martin County rushed 31 times for 312 yards and four touchdowns.

Parker Watts paced Martin County, rushing five times for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Watts in Martin County’s offensive attack, Damian Cheek rushed four times for 69 yards.

Eight different Martin County players rushed for positive yardage. Devan Maynard and Julian Stafford added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Cardinals.

Defensively for Martin County, Maynard and Jack Cline recorded one interception apiece. Maynard returned his interception 90 yards for a touchdown.

Martin County is scheduled to host East Carter for its final regular season game on Friday, Nov. 1.

In another regular season finale set for Friday, Nov. 1, Floyd Central is slated to visit Shelby Valley.
